Our storytellers have been up to no good...
This Spring, True Theatre will be the host to an evening of laughter with tales of trueMISCHIEF! Join us April 8th to hear from a movie projectionist who learns that karma can be a bitch; a self-described “Grandma Becky” who reaches outside her comfort zone to turn her school upside down; a man who is living proof that once a ninja, always a ninja; and Michael Uslan, the originator and Executive Producer on every Batman movie from 1989’s “Batman” to 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises”, reveals how he fooled the system on the road to the red carpet! (Yes, you read that correctly! Michael Uslan!) … PLUS, our constant musician, Mark, puts down his accordion and picks up the microphone to share a story of one-upmanship that maybe went a little TOO up! All of this AND five minutes of open mic for one member of our audience to share their story of mischief-making. Come laugh with us and leave inspired to go make a little mischief of your own!

January 7, 2013: trueCINCINNATI [7:30PM]
For the city that has given us so much...
Whether you call it "Porkopolis" or "the 'Nati," it's our favorite city and our home. Help us pay homage to it on January 7, when you will hear from a man who grew up in the kitchen of LaRosa's and now serves as it's CEO, a daring fellow who has lived on BOTH the east and west sides of town and has lived to tell the tale, and a librarian who faced a challenge much bigger than she bargained for (but, thanks to it, we have the beautiful image you see on our poster!). Plus, a college student gives a guided tour of a side of Cincinnati most of us never see. All this and a story from Channel 12 personality and dancing machine Bob Herzog! Join us on January 7 and raise a glass to the Queen City with us!

October 15, 2012: trueLEARNING [7:30PM]
Learn something new today...
Whether in the classroom or merely at the School of Hard Knocks, we've all learned a lesson somewhere. On October 15, come hear from those who've given and received them, including a man who literally dropped out of school to join the circus, a woman who found that the only way up from bottom was through a classroom she never imagined she'd enter, and a teacher facing the same frustration all teachers face: am I reaching these kids? Plus, Reva Henderson, who made audiences bust a gut with the story of her early delivery in trueMOM, returns with the story that could be considered the first step on the very long road that got her to that point! Also, for the first time ever, True Theatre opens their mic to audience members to share their trueLEARNING stories! It's Adult Education at True Theatre. Come learn a thing or two!

_May 14, 2012: trueMOM [7:30PM]
Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, we all got 'em! Some of us ARE 'em!
Our Moms are coming to the show! And, if you are too, you will hear stories from a Mom who never thought she'd be one, another who helped two children find a better home through adoption, a man who took care of his ailing mother through dementia and beyond, our youngest storyteller to-date describing her ordinary life in her unique surroundings, and a woman who fought valiantly to stave off labor (which, you can imagine, is a losing battle!). Whether you're a mother, have a mother, or know someone who does, you will rejoice to hear these stories of birth, growing up, the choices we make, and the days at the end, as we celebrate Mothers at True Theatre.

_February 13, 2012: trueLOVE [7:30PM]
Stories to touch your heart. A perfect early Valentine's present!
On the eve of Valentine's Day, you will be reminded of the many facets of love.
On Monday, February 13, you will hear from a man whose journey to love took him to some strange and extraordinary places; a woman, coping with the fact that dating men her own age has several unique challenges; a young man, forced to consider the true definition of love when he discovers the man he met online is not everything he made himself out to be; a woman who realized she met "the one" when her high school sweetheart faces the test neither of them knew was coming; and (a FIRST for True Theatre) a COUPLE who got a second chance at the love they might not have been ready for 30 years ago.
It is no wonder that love is so mysterious, both great and daunting at the same time...

December 1 through 17, 2011: trueCHRISTMAS [7:30PM]
True Theatre is honored to be invited by New Edgecliff Theatre to join them at their space in Columbia-Tusculum as part of their annual Christmas offering! First, Josh Steele returns in David Sedaris' "The Santaland Diaries" (adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello) to bring you the comically darker side of Christmas through the eyes of one man’s memorable experience as a seasonal worker elf at Macy’s Christmas Winter Wonderland.
As Act 2 of the evening, you will hear from True Theatre storytellers, with stories about their most memorable Christmases ever. There are three different storytellers lined up for each of the three weekends of this show, so take advantage of multi-view discounts being offered by New Edgecliff* and join us two or three times! "The Santaland Diaries" is just as funny the second or third time (there's a reason that New Edgecliff keeps bringing this show back!) and the True Theatre stories keep on rollin'!
*visit the box office the night you see the show and get $3 off a ticket for any other future show in this series
For more information and tickets, visit the New Edgecliff show page.
...and although this is true for all True Theatre events, it is especially true when partnered with "The Santaland Diaries": Intended for Mature Audiences Only.
Of course, we will be returning to our home at the Know Theatre for all of our regular season shows, including trueLOVE, coming up on February 13, 2012!
UPDATE! ~~ For the first weekend of the show, you will hear from a grown woman who learned a valuable lesson from a newborn baby, a man who performed a good deed and continues to second-guess his actions 30+ years later, and a woman who grew up suddenly, peeking through the crack in the basement door on Christmas Eve.
UPDATE! ~~ Following a wonderful opening weekend, weekend #2 features a nice woman with a naughty little sister; another who took brave steps to make her eighth Christmas her most memorable; and Gina Cerimele-Mechley (star of New Edgecliff Theatre's recent Burn This) with a story about Christmas Italian-style. In the end, all three of these remarkable women will touch your hearts and your Christmas Spirit!
UPDATE! ~~ For weekend #3, we have a young man whose only wish for Christmas is to spend another with his grandmother, a Vietnam vet whose views on Christmas have changed radically over the years, and a man who has literally lived the life of Ebenezer Scrooge (Joneal Joplin who played Scrooge for the Playhouse in the Park's "A Christmas Carol" for EIGHT SEASONS!). Stories to inspire, just in time for Christmas. You'll leave saying Merry Christmas and "God bless us, everyone!"

November 7, 2011: trueHUNGER [7:30PM]
Take time out from your holiday prep with True Theatre. Tonight's theme will be HUNGER.
Our storytellers for the evening include a man who lives to help others, frustrated by a man who doesn't want help... or anything, for that matter; a woman struggling to be a role model for her sister, despite poverty and homelessness; a CEO of a prominent humanitarian organization, reflecting on the events of his life that made him qualified for his line of work; a retiring competitive eater seeking new ways to sate his unique brand of hunger; and a Muslim woman who finds a home, but has to build her own community.
These are the people who live and work and walk among us. They could be you. Join us this evening, meet them, and maybe learn a little something about yourself in the process.

July 11: trueINDEPENDENCE [7:30PM]
Sometimes we have to fight for it, sometimes it comes to us unexpectedly, but at some point we, like the people we'll hear from this evening, have all had to deal with what it means to be...Independent. On July 11, True Theatre will bring Cincinnati another night of true, personal storytelling: trueINDEPENDENCE. Hear about how Independence can be sought after or fought against; how it can be a deeply personal experience or a collective spirit that inspires a nation into action. You will hear from five inspiring speakers: an Egyptian man redefines himself while his nation does the same; a man recounts his explosive past and the lesson that he was a little slow in learning; a recent divorcee arrives in Thailand but encounters trouble when she tries to leave; a wife and mother realizes she was born into and raised entirely in a religious cult; and a child of deaf parents grows up fast... maybe a little too fast. Whether it's in their nature or in their lives, Independence has touched all of these storytellers and it will touch you, too!
Check out the final show of the first season of Cincinnati's hottest new ticket! True Theatre!

April 11, 2011: trueFOOLISHNESS [7:30PM]
There is a season for everything. A time to mourn, a time to laugh, and then there's a time to be absolutely foolish.
On Monday, April 11, True Theatre's next five storytellers will have you laughing (and maybe crying) as they talk about their brushes with Foolishness. You'll hear from a woman looking for love in all the wrong places; the legendary local jug band, The Cincinnati Dancing Pigs, sharing the story behind a couple of their original songs; an improv comic seeking purpose; a woman kidding herself about a reality that will not go away; and a well known political figure revealing, for the first time, the WHOLE story behind "The Pitch"!
Plus we have some very exciting news we’ll be sharing about next season.
You'd be a FOOL to miss this show!
January 10, 2011: trueBEGINNINGS [7:30PM]
As the new year begins, come for an evening of true, personal stories to be reminded that, good or bad, somewhere, everything has a beginning... sometimes more than one.
Join us Monday, January 10th to hear 5 speakers share their true stories about beginnings they have experienced or are still searching for.
We will hear from a doctor who brought his surgical experience to Haiti immediately following the 2010 earthquake, but found that experience was no match for the complexities of disaster and the challenge of just where to begin; a woman who is try-trying again to figure out what she wants to be when she "grows up" and another, still asking the same questions at the end of her career; a woman who approached her agoraphobia by putting herself into the scariest place she could think of; and an activist who managed to reach a brand new audience... from behind bars.
Begin the new year with us and an evening that is sure to entertain, delight, and bring us all a little closer together.

October 25, 2010: trueFEAR [7:30PM] Fear comes in many shapes and forms. It has the power to motivate and paralyze. It is an essential tool for survival and yet has the ability to prevent us from taking the risks necessary to achieve our hopes and dreams.
Join us Monday, October 25th to hear 5 speakers share their true stories about how fear has shaped their lives. Their stories are personal, humorous at times, and always deeply affecting. We will hear from a woman who against all odds broke the cycle of an abusive upbringing by a schizophrenic father who treated his illness with drugs and alcohol. A husband and father who after being told he has four months to live learned to look fear in the face and walk confidently in his faith. A woman who after a double lung transplant now courageously steps into a life unplanned. The artistic director of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company shares the anxieties and fears of public performance.
We hope you can join us for an evening that is sure to entertain, delight, and help us understand our own fears a little better.
